Our first studio has become one of my favorites. We got to choose to make finger puppets that celebrated ourselves. I chose to make a giraffe because it is one of my favorite animals and is something I'd like people to know about me. I used yellow and brown modeling clay to create the body of the giraffe. I added two separate circles to create the head and nose of the giraffe. Using smaller pieces to add the horns and ears. Creating this finger puppet was my favorite studio this semester and is something to celebrate. Getting to see the creativity of all of my classmates really made me enjoy this studio so much more. According to The Dalai Lama quoted in Pink (2005), "...we are all seeing something better in life. So I think the very motion of our life is towards happiness" (pg. 220). I believe this quote can follow how I feel about this particular studio. We all need something in our life that makes us happy. Working towards becoming a teacher and experiencing every memory from class to field work is something I can appreciate throughout the year.
The second studio is about creating a magazine cover that celebrates the 21st century in America. I chose to represent my hometown of St. Louis because is a popular town and there are many exciting things to do in the city that some people may have heard about. I chose to incorporate a picture from the Lake of the Ozarks which is a popular vacation spot to many people in St. Louis. The St. Louis Cardinals baseball team is also a BIG part of St. Louis and is celebrated daily with fans from around the town. The St. Louis Blues hockey team is a favorite of mine and I incorporated it into my magazine cover to show people the atmosphere of one of their games and something everyone should experience if they are a hockey fan. I wanted to make this piece seem realistic for people who aren't from St. Louis and could explore many of the different activities to do there.
The third studio was an artists choice. I chose to incorporate a heart to celebrate women similar to Miriam Schapiro. I wanted to make my design completely random and wanted to include different aspects of color that I enjoyed to show the different pieces of life to celebrate. I included an outline of tissue paper to represent a whole and that women should celebrate their lives and appreciate the world around them. I included the green fabric to represent a quilt pattern like Miriam did in her artwork. I wanted it to represent a community and to celebrate the female gender as a whole. I added sequence for fun to add pop to the artwork and to the celebration.
According to Pink (2005), ..."start taking spirituality serious and start taking happiness seriously" (pg. 219). I believe this is something everyone should consider when thinking about the celebrations they have or the different moments in their life. Everyone has something to celebrate and shouldn't be afraid to share their happiness.
